The watercolor portrays a Taiwanese fishing schooner resting at the dock — as if catching its breath after a long journey at sea. Its hull is solid, settled deep in the water, as though the vessel has absorbed the fatigue of winds, waves, and countless dawns.
The boat is draped in nets, ropes, and buoys, like a soldier clad in armor forged from labor and salt. Along its sides are worn and battered patches, traces of summer heat, storms, and years of faithful service. But these marks don’t speak of decay — they tell of character, of time remembered.
Its turquoise paint still lingers — faded, but glowing beneath layers of salt and sun. In places, the paint has peeled away, revealing rusted metal beneath. Yet the rust doesn’t weaken; it clings like sea moss — dense and gripping, as if it holds the hull together, refusing to let it fall. In this rust, there is not frailty, but endurance.
The schooner appears tired, yet beautiful — like a sailor returned from the sea, weathered by salt and scarred by storms, but proud. There is no polish in this portrait — only true, quiet strength. It rests for now, but it’s ready to sail again.
